Today also marks the day we stop writing checks to our contractor. The bathroom is finished as far as they are going, meaning that now it is up to me to get in there and seal the drywall and prime and paint the walls. We were so lucky to find such a generous and hardworking family to do our work for us. Not only did the renovate the bathroom and repair many a water damaged ceiling, they revitalized our lawn and saved many of the antique plantings that were in a state of disrepair. They helped us pull the exterior of our home into line with all the work we had put in to the interior, and we are so thankful. I was realizing today that I will be alone in the house during the day now (until I go back to work), and it's going to be a little bit lonley without the hum of power tools and the blasting of Frank 106.3. After all the horror stories we heard about contractors, we feel very lucky to have found someone we can trust for the long haul.
From here, there is still much to be done. The contents of the other two upstairs bedrooms are still out on the porch, waiting for the construction to wrap up. The stairs are still a total disaster. Something still smells a little in the kitchen, despite our frequent applications of bleach. The chimney is getting worked on this week, and Chris eventually has to mow the lawn again. But the point is that we are so happy, after such a long time of looking and the crazy provess of buying, to have found and purchased our home. She is the definition of a work in progress!
