Well, things remain quiet on the house front. The winter blahs leave us with little to do with this old house. That combined with work and wedding leaves us even less likely to spend our free time power-washing. What I do have to offer you this week, however, is some fabulous proof that our Penny is able to fetch! The orange squeaky toy you see featured is her absolute favorite ever. She only gets it for about an hour a day because, as you can hear, it is very loud and makes her get very loud and excited. But she is SO GOOD while we are gone all day that the hour of noise is well worth it. That, and she's learning so fast - not only to fetch but to sit-stay as well. The sit-stay is working okay inside - outside is a different challenge that we're working on...
Miss Penny had a big weekend! We took her yesterday over to the compound in Dunstable where Penny and her babies were fostered last summer. She got to play with other dogs and people and run around in the woods, which is always great. It's nice, too, because she can be off-leash there and come right back to us when called. I love having a dog who wants to be with me!
We also had a very special experience yesterday seeing one of Penny's babies. Teddy was adopted by a wonderful family who brought him over to see us. They recognized each other instantly (well, Teddy immediately tried to nurse, which wasn't met with approval) and hit it off, running and playing like we've never seen Penny do. She had so much fun that we considered getting another dog to keep her company. No big decisions on that yet, but she did so well yesterday that maybe we'll think about it...
As far as the house goes, we're waiting on our check from the government to get started with our next big project. The spring will find us doing LOADS of yardwork on the lawn (mmm, loam) and putting together our team for the deck project. Hopefully we should have a deck for me to sunbathe on by the time school gets out in June! It'll be much better than the grubby lawn or the splintery picnic table we have now.
I'll leave you with one of Chris' favorite recent pictures of Penny. I'm well aware that you know about our love for the dog, but her love for us is starting to make itself more and more apparent. Penny loves to be held, but she especially loves to 'hug' us. Photographic evidence below. :) What a life.
